I am on a semester break right now. Final examination killed me. I am just glad I survived. Another semester to endure before I end my Bachelor in Legal Studies.

Oh yeah, I'm going to Philippines for a 5 days vacation on 29th January. The only thing that excites me as a vintage lover is ukay-ukay.

Ukay-ukay means 'to dig,' because folks would dig into a pile of clothes for that hidden gem of a find!

Thrifting, you'll never know what you could find.

Things that I've found at thrift shops before? Pretty and cheap vintage blazers and jackets, Ralph Lauren sweaters, Liz Claiborne blouse, ah, too many to list.

I am a firm believer that you don't need new expensive clothes to be fashionable.

Hi. I've been abandoning this blog for ages as I rant much often on Twitter. You can reach me there by the tweet-handle of @benazirjb.

Let's talk about running, shall we? I don't run everyday because law school has totally conquer my life, but whenever I get the chance, I will run for at least 10-15 minutes.

I run to stay in shape and for emotion and tension release. If you want to lose some weight, I suggest that you should start running today as it is the best cardio exercise to blast serious calories in your body.

Think of this, I can walk, so I can run. It is all about our mindset, if you set your mind that you can't run, then you can't run.

Of course it is hard to start running, but it is either today, or never.

For beginners, start slowly with a walk. After a few days of walking, then you should start with a combination of walk and run.

Take it slow, step by step.

And yes, before I forgot, do not run everyday if you have just started running! Give your muscles and tendons a chance to adapt to running.

Remember, if you can't run, walk, do not give up and take it slow.

The biggest book sale in the world has begun! On Wednesday, Family Law tutorial was called off thus Reina and I went on a trip to Big Bad Wolf Sale at MAEPS Serdang. It was massive!

We brought along a luggage and trust me, you will really need it!

Some people were carrying around boxes filled with books..

I was pretty sure their hands were sore after that

RM12 each. Didn't buy them because I didn't bring enough cash T.T

A luggage full of books!

RM96 for 11 books. Good bargain ey?

Here are some tips if you're planning to go to Big Bad Wolf:

1) bring enough cash if you're a hardcore book lover

2) bring a luggage, or more

3) Don't make a scene at the payment counter by making sure you choose the books that you really want to buy before going to the payment counter!

4) If you really don't know where the venue is, bring a friend who does. Don't be like Reina and I, but thanks to GPS, we managed to reach Big Bad Wolf and went home like pro(s)!

On September 10 2011, my cousins Yan and Afra went window-shopping around Bukit Bintang. We had the chance to stop by Sephora at Starhill. One of the products that caught my attention was Soap and Glory by Saskatchewanian Marcia Kilgore. Oh yes, you got it right, because of its gorgeous shade of pink with vintage pin up girls pictures on the packaging!

Bought for myself a 300ml tub of softening body butter for only RM39.00, a 125ml tub of hydrating hand cream for RM29.00, and a 500ml bottle of cream body wash for RM39.00!

Believe me, they smell so delicious and amazing that I smell nice the whole day! Now my skin are softer and much more moisturized than before! Soap and Glory products are highly recommended and trust me, you will not regret it.

Photos taken with my Diana Mini on an impromptu trip to Cameron Highland on Wesak Day early this year. A friend of mine wanted to go there to shoot some pictures for an assignment. We made a wise decision to go up there, while many others stormed up Broga Hills on the same day.

The weather was gorgeous and we had fun indulging ourselves with fresh strawberries with cream, tea and scones.

Some other day, I will surely visit the highland of Cameron again.

I was doing a research on how to get the correct exposure for Canon ae-1 and to my luck, I found out that in photography, there is a simple method to estimate the correct daylight exposures without a light meter.

The method is known as the Sunny 16 rule or Sunny f/16 rule.

The rule applies as follows : In bright sunlight, set the lens opening to f/16 and the shutter speed to the reciprocal of the ISO.

In simplest word, on a bright sunny day, and you're using a camera with ISO 100 film or setting, set the aperture to f/16 and the shutter speed to 1/100.

"The rule is quite easy to remember – if you’re taking a photo in bright daylight set the aperture to f/16 and set the shutter speed to be as near as possible to the same number as the film speed." - Markus Hartel

This Sunny 16 rule is really helping for an amateur like me!

Well, that doesn't matter. The significance of the picture above is that, it is a proof that North Borneo (now is known as Sabah) was declared independent by the British government on the 31st of August 1963.

Tun Fuad Stephens (Donald Aloysius Marmaduke) established United National Kadazan Organization (UNKO), and together with Tun Mustapha, who established United Sabah National Organization (USNO) achieved the independence of North Borneo (Sabah) on the 31st of August 1963.

The independence of North Borneo (Sabah) was achieved 16 days before the formation of Malaysia on the 16th of September 1963.

I've been longing to own this camera after i read khairunie's post on her blog. Needless to say, she inspired me to explore more about photography.

Canon ae-1 was launched in 1976 by Canon Co., Ltd. and over five million units we sold!

Bought this lovely canon ae-1 from mudah.my with the money that I earned by helping my father with his case submission on the Law of Taxation.

Now that I've got this new baby, I think I am going to concentrate on shooting with films. I've been neglecting my D3000 for months. Shooting with films give me more satisfaction. Of course it is much more expensive but hey, this is something that I love.

On a lighter note, I have five more undeveloped rolls of films because of money constraint.

So in my previous post I did mention that I've lost 1 kilogram right? Guess what, I've lost 3.6 kilograms in just three weeks after some intensive diet and work out plans.

Ramadhan is here so I have to slow down a bit, but still watching on what I eat. Have a happy Ramadhan and remember, Ramadhan is the Month of Fitness, not the Month of Fatness.

not young anymore

Yes. I am not young anymore. Truth be told, I do not want to lead an unhealthy lifestyle. I eat a lot, I'm always hungry and I forgot how it feels to be so full.

Starting last month, I've been taking notes on what I consume everyday. I've cut down calories intake and been forcing myself to consume not more than 1200 calories per day. Yes, it is painful for a food lover like me. T.T

Other than that, I've started working out again. Running and super-walk everyday for at least 40 minutes.
I prefer running and walking rather than doing Yoga or Pilates.

I love running at Kompleks Sukan Likas lake, and I prefer running outdoors rather than running on the treadmill. Treadmill bores me actually.

Well, let's see how I survive. On a lighter, I've lost 1 kilogram after a week of running everyday!

Monday, 27 June 2011:
Arrived at Mahkamah Kota Kinabalu. Supposed to be doing an internship at the High Court, but we were transferred to the Magistrate Court. We were introduced to the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Magistrate Court. She was very nice and very young. Afterwards, we were introduced to one of the Magistrate, and entered the court room to hear some mention cases. The highest crime rate committed in Sabah is the usage of illegal drugs. Bah apa lagi.. Makan syabu lah! Later in the afternoon, we attended a trial, concerning possession of drugs.

Tuesday, 28 June 2011:
In the morning, again, heard some mention cases. For both civil and criminal cases. Syabu lagi! We were brought to Bilik Tahanan Reman, and the smell of those detainees... pergh.. pergi tak kembali dowh! Later in the afternoon, we attended the same trial again.

Wednesday, 29 June 2011:
There was an event held in the Federal Court. A video conference with Mahkamah Kuching, Sarawak. Concerning a new electronic system which will be used by all the courts in Sabah and Sarawak. Later, we went back to the Magistrate Court administration office and asked around. In the afternoon, again, the same trial. Lesson learned, do not confuse the witnesses with complicated questions.

During these three days of internship, I've been doing a lot of thinking. Will I be able to survive the world as a white-collar worker?

journey to the holy city - episode five

Mekah, 13th of June 2010.

On the fourth day in Saudi Arabia, we had a good breakfast and dressed up in ihram. Before getting on the bus heading to Bir Ali Mosque (Miqat Bir Ali/pilgrimage boundary), we paid a visit to the makam (grave) of Nabi Muhammad S.A.W.

I do not remember how long it took for us to arrive at Mekah from Miqat Bir Ali. However, when we arrived at Mekah, it was already Isya'. En route to Mekah, a tire of the bus exploded and the bus driver pulled over somewhere to change the tire. So much for patience right?

Once we arrived at the holy city of Mekah, we checked-in in a hotel and had dinner before completing the Umrah. After dinner, off we went to Masjidil Haram to perform Tawaf round the Kaaba and Saei between Al-Safa and Al-Marwah.

For the first Umrah, I did not take the camera with me hence no pictures to illustrate. I was so nervous and scared at the same time as the stories in Mastika kept popping in my head.

journey to the holy city - episode four

I apologize for postponing this post. So much had happen and I've just finished with second year of Bachelor in Legal Studies. I'm currently enjoying my 4 months summer break and I will be doing an internship at Kota Kinabalu High Court on June 27th.

Remember this post? After performing solat sunat at Masjid Quba, we went to Pasar Tamar (Kebun Tamar) which is located not far from Madinah.

Along to way to Pasar Tamar, the bus passed through Masjib al-Qiblatain, means, the Mosque of the two Qiblat. This mosque is important for us the Mulims as it is the place where the prophet Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. while leading the prayer, he is said to have been commanded by Allah S.W.T. to change the direction of prayer (Qiblat) from Jerusalem to Mekah. Upon receiving the command, Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. immediately turned around to face Mekah (the Kaabah).

Upon arriving at Pasar Tamar (dates market), we saw a shop which is in the hearth of an estate of dates. The shop sells various kinds of dates and many other kinds of tidbits including pistachios and cashew nuts. There were also chocolates made out of dates, as an example the one in the heart shape in the picture above. Subsequently, we stopped by Pusat Percetakan Al-Quran which is the biggest center Al-Quran printing center in the world and is located next to Saudi Arabia's army combat training center. Unluckily, only men were permitted to enter the center to witness the extraordinary printing process and they were also lucky to get a free copy of Al-Quran each.

Afterwards, we paid a visit to Jabal Uhud which is located 4 miles from the city of Madinah. Jabal Uhud was the mountain where the Battle of Uhud took place.

Jabal Uhud witnessed the most cruel war that ever happened in the Islamic history.

While in Madinah, I took the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Masjid Nabawi, which is known as the second holiest site in Islam by the Muslims. Historically, the site which Masjid Nabawi now stands was previously Nabi Muhammad's house. Due to the increasing number of pilgrims to Masjid Nabawi, open courtyard of the mosque can now be shaded by folded, umbrella-like canopies, designed by Bodo Rash and Buro Happold. Perhaps tonight is the best time to blog about Justin Bieber. I bet everyone knows him. Ever since I saw him singing, dancing, playing the piano, the guitar and jumped to the drum set and played it like a pro this one time on MTV, I started to be so anxious and wondered.

"Who is this kid?" I started listening to his songs. My personal favorites are One Time, Bigger, U Smile and Overboard. They're spectacular.

Watched 'Never Say Never' and I was inspired. Never knew a little kid from Stratford turned out to be a superstar.

So at the age of 12, he started busking. He was so good that tourists dropped up to £150 a day into his bucket. He entered the Stratford Star singing competition and came third.

I knew that he was going to perform a concert here in Kuala Lumpur for My World tour. So I bought a ticket after forcing myself to contemplate of going to his concert as I was having final examination.

I decided. Straight after the first paper of Administration of Trust, I popped into the car with Gem and Izat. Twas raining and Federal highway was congested with cars. Beliebers perhaps.

I was excited and even wore purple Vans sneakers which were gift from the boyfriend for my 21st birthday. We were stuck in the jam for 3 insane hours. We were nervous. Almost reached Stadium Merdeka but there were so many cars and the traffic hardly moved! So we decided to park the car nowhere and walk all the way to the Stadium! Twas quite far. Haha! But I wouldn't want to miss the opening!

Reached the Stadium and oh my, there were so many people. The school kids, teenagers, and even adults! Not to mention that I saw some grandparents.. (._.)

Entered the Stadium. Almost full house. Free seating. Twas muddy. Dirtied my sneakers. Saw bunches of screaming girls.

There was a countdown and boom! Justin Drew Bieber came out singing Love Me. The show was amazing and hey you know what, he's a true performer.

There were school girls screaming "Justin, I wanna marry you! Ahhh!!" behind me.

I just laughed. What else was I supposed to do? Oh yeah I didn't take pictures or whatnot. Took some videos but I prefer just to enjoy the moment the old school way.

I'm not a big fan but he inspired me.

So in my previous post I was contemplating on what to wear to a function. I was thinking of wearing something simple yet nice and when I was window-shopping at Sungei Wang with the boyfriend, I found this perfect black and red qipao (cheongsam).

In order to be decently dressed, I wore the qipao with a net-pantyhose and perfected the look with a pair of red satin pump. Put on some make-up, red scarlet lipstick, false eyelashes and peacock feather earrings and there I went looking like a Chinese version of Marylin Monroe.

Asked my mom,

"Mom, lawa ka saya pakai cheongsam?"

"Macam Cina bulat."

My life has been really packed with studies and whatnot. Tonight, I will be attending an annual dinner and guess what? I think my mother will be really proud of me for wearing a qipao for the function.

My weekend was amazing. Started it with a marathon of 5.2 kilometers for Inter-College Sports 2011. Later on Saturday, went to order some hampers for an event that we are organizing and grabbed a lunch of McDonald's with Ramen. Met Reina and helped her set up her booth Avant La Mode for Bijou Bazaar & Pekan Frinjan. Twas a huge success and the event was superb. My kind of interests. Bought some stuff but I was not really in a shopping mode. Later that night, sleepover at Reina's crib.

Sunday morning, woke up early and went to Astaka, Malaysian Paintball Academy which is situated at Petaling Jaya. I've always wanted to try paintball since high school.

Thanks to our Legal Research Methodology's initial topic. My group mates (Reina and Emy) and I were of the opinion to do a research regarding Dugong Dugon but a disaster came when our LRM lecture Pn. Meena told us that the topic had been done previously by our seniors. Fret not, Emy who was a paintballer for Zealous came up with an idea to do a research about paintball and the law behind it.

We had prepared some questionnaires and interviewed some paintballers for our research purpose. Afterward, Reina and me tried paintball for the very first time! We played great, for amateurs like us. The adrenaline rush. Years ago I was just shooting in Counter-Strike..

Paintball is an expensive game. Freaking expensive but now I thirst for more. Now I need to study hard and play harder to be a lawyer! So that I can uphold justice and make money and play paintball every weekend. Chiao!

The day after Christmas. 'Twas a beautiful Sunday morning. I woke up at six in the morning. Texted the boyfriend and an idea popped up in my head.

"Jom Gaya Street."

The boyfriend fetched me and off we went to Gaya Street. We made a history. A very early date, freaking 7.00 am in the morning.

Done with final examination. Twas alright. Will be flying to Phnom Penh, Cambodia on the 20th of November with the others. Once we arrive there, we'll hop on a van to a village, Oo Smait, for some volunteer and charity works. Will be staying there for two days. After that, we'll go back to the city and stay in a hotel until the 25th. and oh, Emy suggested that we should sing Heal The World by late Michael Jackson for our performance during our stay in Oo Smait.

on a short note, we are required to handle a little something for the kids there. Any ideas?
Just could not wait to explore the other side of the world.

It's been ages since I last updated this blog. You must be missing me eyh? So, I've been busy with raya celebration with my family, of course. And meeting up some close friends. Just a quick update on what has been going on in my life lately.

1) I've been so uptight with lectures and thank God tutorial classes have just started this week. Last Saturday, had co-curriculum and we learned and did Taegeuk 1. National Kesatria is so much fun, if you have passion for it, just like I do. Hahaha.

2) In the evening, we the juniors of intake 44 went jogging around the campus with the seniors and Commander Yusuf and played frisbee afterwards. On Sunday, we the commanders had refreshment and learned a lot and it was so amazing although we were so exhausted.

3) I have 3 posts this semester, excluding the post of Poysoc's president.

4) Law and Philosophy assignment made me cranky as the topic that Mr Haris gave to my group was 'apostasy'. I digested a lot of views from various famous philosophers. and also found an interesting quote from an unknown author and it sounds like this:

"I considered atheism, but there were not much holidays."

journey to the holy city - episode three

Our group arrived at Jeddah early in the morning. Just right after Subuh prayer. And it was Friday. We got on a bus and the real journey started. It took about four to five hours to reach the holy city of Madinah from Jeddah. We reached Madinah an hour before Friday prayer. Our bus stopped at Masjid Quba and we performed the Friday prayer in the mosque. After that, off we went to our hotel, Wasel Alreem which is situated nearby Masjid Nabawi.

The next day, early in the morning,
our group went to Masjid Quba again to perform solat sunat.

journey to the holy city - episode two

Here are some of the moments that I managed

to capture while we were in Dhaka for almost a day.

All of the pictures were taken with my little

Sony Cybershot digital camera when we were on the van.

The road traffic in Dhaka for me, was, beyond dreadful. I'm sorry to tell you this but I am truly honest from the bottom of my heart. *lagi teruk dari jam di KL dan KK*

Oh yeah, they don't have any traffic lights there so they honk at each other. As a Malaysian, it was odd to hear the sounds of hooting, honking, and beeping and honking again everywhere.

The woman in her red punjabi suit was showing children's books that she was selling to the passengers in our van.

It is a norm on Dhaka's packed road that you'll see many people trying to sell various stuff to the passengers inside the vehicles that are stuck in the jam.

Some of them was selling towels, bottled mineral water, nuts, newspapers, cigarettes..

Beca, a kind of public transport for those who can afford.

Another interesting scene that attracted me. Other than this, I also saw a train with passengers on top of it! Oh, remember the train scene in Slumdog Millionaire where Salim and Jamal were kicked out of the train and then they stayed on top of the train instead? But I didn't manage to get a picture of it..

Don't try this at home, Malaysia.

Okay, enough with Bangladesh.

journey to the holy city - episode one

For my 20th birthday, my parents sponsored my trip to Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah.
I was so excited because it was my first time going out of Malaysia. *ok so lame*

The trip was supposed to be on the 6th of June. However, due to some visa's application problem, the trip was postponed to 9th June 2010.

On 9th June, 8.00am, my parents sent me to Kota Kinabalu International Airport as my flight to Kuala Lumpur would be on 10.00am. Unfortunately, when I was at the check-in counter, the man at the counter informed my dad and me that my name was not on the flight's list.

Tapi sudah bayar ok through online, so the problem was because of their system failure.
My parents had to pay for another RM600++ for a new flight ticket at 4.00pm on the same day.

I arrived at KLIA around 7.00pm and went to meet my group for the trip to Saudi Arabia.

My name tag. Didn't really use it. Hahahaha.

Biman, Bangladesh Airlines. Oh yeah, we had to transit at Dhaka for almost a day! Only the Almighty knows how I felt when I was there.

After a 4 hours flight from Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka, Bangladesh, the picture above was at Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. Ok at first I thought Dhaka was in Dubai. Then I Googled, it's in Bangladesh. -_-"

When we got on a van to our hotel, my hand was tapped by a poor looking boy asking for some money. I gave him RM1 which is equivalent to 15 Bangladeshi Taka. After awhile, another boy came asking from us some money. He chased after the van. He ran so fast. Without shoes. Fast and furious. For money.

Bangladesh, one of the most poorest country on Earth.

This afternoon I went to a saloon at Karamunsing to get my hair done. The hairstylist said my hair was too dry. Too dry. Too many split ends. Ok I got it! I was too busy for uni, classes and extra-co and how the heck that I'm supposed to drag myself to the saloon? T_T

For your information, I get my hair done twice a year, during semester breaks. So much of being a student who lives inside the campus. And I'm car-less! I'm Motor-less!

His fringe is awesome right? I asked the hairstylist to style my fringe like that.
After all the wash-cut-and-treatment, walaa!

I'm a 60's rock star! The fringe didn't work out well, it need to be permed to get it right.

I despise parents who force their kids to do what the kids do not like. Some parents want their children to be scientists, while the children want to be musicians. Some parents yearn for their kids to be lawyers, but they want to be dancers.

It is true that parents are giving what is the best for their children, but they should let the children make their own choices.

My post examination activities commenced with a trip
to Macdonald's at 6.30am for a hearty breakfast.
I love caffeine.

Together with Emy, Tuya and Bel.

I was the only one having coffee.

I went back to college at 9am,
and went to have another breakfast of roti canai
with Nadzi, Azwa, Ain and Nina.

We hit the road and went to survey

Hani, junior saya time di MRSM KK yang tercinta, tanya saya camana maw bahagi-bahagi masa untuk studies dan juga untuk hal ehwal semasa yang lain. Ceih macam la saya ni pandai betul kan? Haha. Tapi nda pa, saya cuba sehabis baik!
Hmmm, kalau saya la kan. Masa nda bleh bahagi, yang saya bleh buat, senaraikan perkara-perkara, masalah, hal, paper work, assignments yang bertimbun kepada beberapa kategori. Haha. Skemanya.

Pastu, bila sudah bagi-bagi, buat dulu yang 'urgent and important'. Contohnya macam assignment yang kena hantar esok tapi malam ni baru maw buat. Hahahaha. Ala, macam nda besa.

Pastu yang 'not urgent and not important', macam maw pigi tengok wayang sama kawan-kawan, tu nanti-nanti la buat bila semua yang urgent and important sudah buat. Hah, kan senang?!
Lagi satu, jangan ponteng kelas. Sebab saya paling pantang tu. Haha. Biarlah kita ni nda pandai, tapi jangan tembirang dan bodoh sombong. Datang kelas. Nda rugi pun. ^_^

Kalau untuk hal-hal lain plak, contohnya aktif sukan kah, jadi Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar kah, memang bagus, tapi jangan terlampaw taksub sampai lupa apa tujuan utama kita di kolej ataupun universiti. Kan kita maw belajar?

Hehe. Bah kalau boleh pakai ni tips, ambik la, buat sup. Hehe.
